Gandner, PhD, research associate at the Center for Sleep and Circadian Neurobiology at the University of Pennsylvania) His Secret: "I used to have a really hard time falling asleep, but I've since learned that spending time awake trains us that the bed is a place for worry and rumination.  The bed needs to be a cue for sleep, period.  So now whenever I hear that voice that says, 'This sleep thing is not happen' - which could take 10 minutes or 40 minutes - I go read or write in a darkened room for at least 30 to 60 minutes.  When I try to sleep again, I usually drop right off.  In the clinic, this is called stimulus-control therapy, and 20 years of data show that it can be more effective at treating insomnia than sleeping pills."  It works - it takes time buy it works!                                                                                (4/13/13) Remember your parents saying "Sleep Tight" as you went to bed each night? Ever wonder what it means?  I have been in the Mattress industry for over forty years now and this is what I was told by my first boss - way back when I started at Sealy Mattress Co here in South Gate, CA....Mattresses were not always made with nice strong steel springs or soft comfy foams; there was a time when a thick cotton fabric bed sack was filled with what was at hand and seem comfortable at the time - things like dried grasses, horse hair, cotton, and even feathers!  We had not developed "Box Springs" yet so it was common to string rope between a headboard and foot board (head to toe), and side rails (side to side) of your bed and put your mattress on top of the rope "net" - much like we put a twin mattress on a "link spring" in a Day Bed today.  Well with use, the rope would stretch and loosen, becoming much less comfortable.  To improve the comfort the rope was pulled "tight" and secured again and a much better night's sleep was had!  Thus the saying "SLEEP TIGHT!".                                                                                                                            (3/16/13)             An article on "Barron's" website in mid May (but just brought to my attention) noted that people who had recently purchased Memory foam sleep sets were complaining that memory foam mattress were very difficult to have sex on!  One unhappy owner's complaint was a lack of "traction"!  The article stated that Tempur-pedic (the country's largest manufacture/retailer of this type of mattress) said they had not heard of any such complaints.  A mattress review site "SleepLikeTheDead.com" analyzed as many comments about memory foam as they could find on the internet and stated that "about 40% of owners say that sex is less than ideal." Do not wait - our customers know our floor samples are always like new so they go fast - so if you have interest in a floor sample - do not wait!!!                                                                                                    (5/11/13) Let's talk about "adjustable beds" - We've had a lot of customers in lately thinking about adjustable sleep sets in the last couple of months and for the most part they were very confused about these new type of sleep sets that are in many ads today.  1st. - No they are not just for "Old People"!!!  We have customers in their 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's buy adjustable sleep sets.  They are great if you have back problems - great if you don't have back problems!  They can indeed make your life much more comfortable if you suffer from any of a long list of ailments; but just as many of our customers buy adjustable sleep sets because the offer a greater range of comfortable sleeping positions and that's the best reason to buy them! 2nd. - No they are not super expensive to buy!  They are not the least expensive sleep sets in our store but there are models for most every budget.  And there are very comfortable mattresses to enjoy on them that you get to pick also! We'll talk more about adjustable sleep sets very soon but we thought we would start the conversation with these two points...Comments or Questions - please call the store for answers! (714) 447-3567 m-f 10-7, sat 10-6 sun 12-5...                                                                                                      (3/10/12) We have had many of our customers inquire about the "new type of memory foam mattress" that are now being heavily advertised.  The new GEL INFUSED memory foam mattresses take advantage of technology that combines visco elastic foam and visco elastic gel to produce better support and much cooler sleeping surfaces.  Often cooler sleeping surfaces are improved by carefully cutting channels in the foam to improve the flow of cooling air through the foam cores.  AND it seems to work! Learn more about Visco Gel Infused Memory Foam mattresses by stopping by the store when you have time and of course we will give you all the information you want with no pressure to buy!                                                                                                        (2/27/12) Had a delightful customer yesterday who had purchased from us before - but wanted to down size from a Ca. King to a Queen for more room in her bedroom! (We are seeing a lot of this lately!) Any way she also was having some soreness right at her hip bone in the morning. She was thinking of going to a very thick Pillow Top mattress to try to get more cushion softness to stop the soreness. I asked her to try a "Box Pillow Top" mattress because I was concerned a regular Pillow Top mattress would be a little harder for her to move on the surface of the mattress - from her back to her side, etc. (Box Pillow Tops give you all the comfort of a regular Pillow Top, but for some people are a much better choice because they are much easier to roll and move on.) I then had her try a regular Pillow Top and she agreed the Box Pillow Top was a much better choice for her.   So don't be afraid to try different types of mattresses - and make sure the store you are working with knows what they are doing!                                                                                                                                  (1/22/12) I read an article on Yahoo News in early December about "early peoples" use of bedding found in caves in South Africa - dating back some 77,000 years!  It seems even then people were very concerned about what they slept on.  The article described the types of materials used to form sleeping surfaces and it seems even then comfort was a very important part of their nights!  That information is still true today - even though support may be your most important consideration, do not forget about your comfort.  You can have both comfort and very good support in today's sleep sets - make sure you get both!!!                                                                                      (1/9/12) As stated below we have made some changes to our showroom floor! We have invited Stress-O-Pedic bring in their latest models!!! These new sleep sets range from extra firm to very comfy as well as everything in between - all priced at today's popular prices! Stop by and take a look at this new collection of sleep sets today- you will be glad you did!!!                                                                          (10/21/11)    Just had a customer in who had been in over Labor Day weekend.  He was surprised our prices were the same and not higher.  We explained that we keep our prices as low as possible every day!!!                                                                            (9/19/11) Just read a quick article in Yahoo news about "Bed Bugs"- the fear of every home/condo owner and apartment renter!  The article made a great suggestion - when you are traveling, using hotels - motels and you get to your room - place your luggage on the tile floor of the bathroom.  Evidently bed bugs do not like not having any place to hide so they stay away from tile floors! This then gives you time to give the room a good inspection to see if your temporary residence is home to any of these little buggers!  Great Idea!!!                                                                               (8/26/11) People are always surprised that our prices don't change after Memorial day sales or 4th of July sales are over.  We work really hard to keep our prices as low as possible.  The other stores have to raise their prices up so they can give you back "sale" prices on the next holiday!  Or you can find every day low prices here!                                                                           (7/8/11) The Stress-O-Pedic Mattress Co. has been an important member shown on our showroom for many years and has has had a lot to do with our continued growth here in Anaheim.  We are pleased as can be to let you know we have arranged to place five more styles of their innovative product on our sales floor!  Each style has heavy duty foam encasement (really great edge support!) with Fabric Encased coils (We can't call them pocketed coils - that's a registered trade mark!).  Each style has either memory foam (visco elastic) or latex upholstery layers to create a very comfortable sleeping surface. As you know we are all about good support so that is always well represented in these five new styles!  These new sleep sets have been on our showroom floor for about three weeks now and are making many happy customers for us - stop by, you may find your self placing your order for that new sleep set you have been putting off!!!                                                                                                    (4/21/11)             We just got a lovely KING Headboard in (Painted Iron) - Mauve/Gold tones -            one of a kind - $99.00...  (6/27/12) A report in the Journal of the American Medical Association  in late 2008 associated a lower risk of coronary artery calcification (buildup of plaques in the arteries leading to the heart its self) with sleeping - getting more sleep!  The report followed 500 middle-aged people.  Getting more sleep was linked to a lower chance of calcification.  Whats more the the report indicated that an added hour of sleep lowered the odds of calcification by 33%!  We have several tips to help you get more sleep - NOT TO MENTION THE POSSIBILITY OF A NEW COMFORTABLE MATTRESS SET!!!  So stop by the store  or give us a call... It is not unusual to need a foundation (We don't call them box springs any more as no springs are used!) when changing from bunk beds to individual sleeping sets or changing from a platform bed to a standard bedroom set.  We try to keep a selection of foundations on hand in case you need one - just call. We have a few pieces of bedroom furniture in stock - we purchased from a local sleep shop that closed recently : We have one very nice IRON BED (head board/foot board) priced at $799 - it is offered well below the normal retail price of $1899.00! - Also - We have a lovely queen Brass bed (The sleep shop owner said it was by "Swan" - it is most definitely in that style!!!)  It was on his floor for a long time and shows some traffic wear...Retails @ $799 for $399!
